Regardless of being a caucasion man writing this review, I maintain that this product is racist, tasteless and insist that it be taken out of inventory by Amazon.com. A twisted effigy of our 44th President that, when seeded and watered, grows an organic afro? Horrible. This is a product that, if marketed at all, should be urged toward it’s only possible consumer demographic: Angry, rural, conservative, cryptoracist Sarah Palin voters.

I’m seeing this on the evening of 1/20/09, a truly historical event…I can’t help but think that this product is an insult to our new President!

This product is in very bad form. What a terrible idea. Anyone choosing to sport this decorative item in their home has no idea of taste or decency. The likeness doesn’t even look like the President. Just because he has curly hair, there’s a justification to turn his likeness into a Chia pet? Give me a break.

Chia Obama Handmade Decorative Planter, Determined Pose
Amazon.com has once again surprised me with one of their products; The Chia Obama Planter.
To merely call the “Chia Obama,” which grows an afro, tasteless, would be a gross understatement. I would think after the Obama Halloween Mask problem that Amazon.com had in Oct. ‘08, they’d be more prudent in choosing what products they will offer on their site. Once a company that I, both, enjoyed and admired, I’m very disappointed that Amazon.com has chosen to peddle cheap and vulgar garbage.

Isn’t this the aspect of capitalism that got us in the mess we are in now?…. i.e. capitalizing on a situation regardless of its value. On top of that I suspect it isn’t made in the USA. With this said there is a small sliver of humor to it all that someone actually did this. At the end of the day I have to admit it is harmless, despite my initial reaction. With an 80/20 approval rating I suspect they are targeting the 20%. God help them if they actually thought otherwise.
